Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Pasifika) (Level 5)

Early Childhood Teacher
Chrysalis Childcare Centre

What brought you to NZCC Waitakere?
Originally I’m from India.  Before coming to NZCC I was living in West Auckland and working as a Duty Manager at Progressive Enterprises.  I wanted to work in Early Childhood and NZCC’s New Lynn Campus was close to my home, offered daily lectures and was affordable.

How did you enjoy your NZCC studies?
The highlights of the course were learning about all the rules and regulations you need to follow in order to work in an ECE centre here.  I also loved learning about the Early Childhood Curriculum in New Zealand – Te Whāriki.  Most importantly, NZCC provided me with everything I needed to reach my goal of becoming an Early Childhood teacher.

Tell us about your job as an ECE Teacher.
During my Diploma course I did two practicums in the Magic Kingdom Childcare Centre, which belongs to the same group as Chrysalis Childcare Centre.  I went on to do relief teaching for them for two years, after which I was offered a permanent role as a teacher.  I love being able to provide quality education to children – and one day I hope to become a senior teacher or lecturer, so that I can share my knowledge with others who are as passionate about working with and helping kids as I am.
