New Zealand Career College – A stepping stone to rewarding careers

Because we are all different in our personalities, backgrounds, strengths and interests, New Zealand Career College provides a number of pathways towards a rewarding career.

NZCC's Manukau campus, with two locations in Puhinui Rd and Lambie Drive, offers a variety of courses and levels, some of which are completely free to students who qualify. In Early Childhood Education NZCC offers two levels of qualification – the Diploma in ECE Level 5 and the National Certificate in ECE Level 3. The Level 5 programme runs for a 40-week period and is NZQA accredited and approved.

Its Pasifika focus sets it apart from many other course options. As well as earning the mainstream ECE units required by the New Zealand early childhood curriculum Te Whaariki, students learn specific skills and knowledge in educating children of Pasifika origins.

NZCC Manukau Campus manager Monique Le Marque points out, "Pasifika children learn differently, with a greater emphasis on music and visual arts than straight textbook education. Teaching these children requires special skills which are provided by the Pasifika programme."

A high percentage of the Level 5 graduates go into full-time, part-time or relief employment once they have completed their course. The Level 3 course is a foundation programme which provides a good grounding, including experiencing what life is like in an early childhood centre, and opening the door to Level 5 diploma study.

Youth Guarantee
NZCC Manukau also offers a Youth Guarantee Programme, which is funded so there are no fees to pay. Open to 16 and 17 year-olds it provides a variety of hands-on practical skills, a stepping stone towards starting a solid career. In today's environment of high youth unemployment rates, the 36-week no-cost course is a head-start opportunity.

Monique comments: "New Zealand Career College is about career planning, not just doing a quick course. We believe in long term vision and building worthwhile, satisfying careers.

"Our programmes are not just education modules but an educational 'experience' in a really good environment. We're colourful, vibrant and social, but we're also professional and ethical."

ECE courses are planned around student needs. As a lot of students are mums, classes are kept to 9am-1pm with no school holiday classes.
The Youth Guarantee Programme starts February 27 and enrolments are being taken now.

The Diploma in Early Childhood Diploma Level 5 (Pasifika) is also taking enrolments. Enquiries: Please call the team at NZCC on 250-4652 or 0800-88-69-22.

Understanding people: The New Zealand Career College lecturers and staff (team Manukau pictured above) embrace  a variety of cultures and have a good rapport with the students
