About the Programme:

Students can choose between two options for this qualification: mechanical or Collision Repair. This qualification provides the foundation skills and knowledge require for further training in the motor industry, and gives students career opportunities in entry level positions in the automotive industry.

Duration: 24 weeks*

Available to: FFTO (Foundation Focussed Training Opportunity) and Youth Training
No Fees: for individuals meeting FFTO and Youth Training eligibility criteria

Course content includes:

(Dependant on Collision Repair or Mechanical Programme)

•  Workshop engineering
•  Understanding fundamentals of two and four stroke petrol diesel engines
•  Vehicle bodywork, including removing or replacing exterior / interior motor parts and trim
•  Automotive preventative maintenance
•  Collision repair/panelbeating
•  Operation of two and four stroke petrol and diesel engines
•  Safe working practices
•  Structure of the New Zealand motor industry
•  Using hand tools and workshop equipment

Graduate Outcomes & Career Opportunities:

This qualification prepares students for entry into Level 2 programmes, including NZCC’s National Certificate in Motor Industry (Entry Skills) (Level 2), or into entry level positions or apprenticeships in the motor industry.

Course content includes:

(Dependent on Collision Repair or Mechanical programme)

•  Vehicle bodywork, including removing and replacing exterior and interior motor body parts and trim
•  Collision repair/panelbeating, filling and sanding repairs
•  New and emerging automotive technology Oxy-acetylene and MIG welding.
•  Understanding and protecting vehicle electronics Engine repairs, including disassembling and reassembling a single cylinder or multi-cylinder four stroke engine
•  Cooling, braking, steering and suspension systems
•  Automotive preventative maintenance Using hand tools and workshop equipment
•  Health and safety Structure of the New Zealand motor industry

Graduate Outcomes & Career Opportunities:
