This Early Childhood Education course provides a basic introduction to the skills and knowledge involved in the education and care of infants, toddlers and young children within the sociocultural context of Aotearoa/ New Zealand.
This qualification may lead to further education such as the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Pasifika) (Level 5). Further ECE study may enable you to find employment as a nanny, kaiako, educator, PAFT (Parents as First Teachers) educator or a reliever in an ECE centre.

This qualification is designed for people who are involved in the care and education of children in a variety of early childhood education settings including home-based (nannies), education and care centres and playgroups. The certificate is also endorsed by the NZ home-based ECE Association (NZHECEA) and Barnardos to ensure it meets the needs and requirements of the sector. It is also suitable as preparation for university entrance in related fields of study.
This course will prepare you for a career in the ECE sector and is ideal for further developing the academic skills necessary to complete higher level studies in this area.
You may may gain employment in the early childhood sector as an ECE educator, nanny, edu-carer, au pair, Home-based caregiver or choose to continue study towards a degree throughout New Zeland. After the completion of this course you may wish to enrol in the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) at Whitireia New Zealand in Wellington.
