Youth GuaranteeIf you’re 16 or 17, you could be eligible to study FREE for one year under the Youth Guarantee scheme. What is Youth Guarantee? Youth Guarantee is a new initiative that gives 16 and 17 year olds the chance to study free for one year in certain programmes that provide hands-on practical skills to start you on a chosen career path. Who is Eligible? To qualify to study under the Youth Guarantee scheme, students must meet the following criteria:• Be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident • Be 16 or 17 years old and not turning 18 within 3 months of the programme start date • Not have studied at a tertiary institution before (excludes STAR and GATEWAY programmes) • Applicants must undergo a police check and interview • Enrol and commit to study full-time for one year Courses We Offer Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Out of School Care. Includes National Certificate in Early Childhood Education (Level 3) and OSCAR.
Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Out of School Care (OSCAR) (Level 3) About the Programme: Our Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Out of School Care (OSCAR) (Level 3) gives you the knowledge, professional skills and practical experience to start a rewarding career in this exciting industry. Students will also gain the OSCAR Certificate (Level 4) with embedded numeracy and literacy and First Aid. The OSCAR – Out of School Care and Recreation programme – allows students to work in a before- or after-school setting or in school holiday programmes. Graduate Outcomes & Career Opportunities: On successful completion of this programme you may be eligible to apply to study higher level qualifications including the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Pasifika) (Level 5) (see page 9). Alternatively employment opportunities include OSCAR worker, early childhood education worker, nanny, home based educator. Fees This course is FREE for students studying under the Youth Guarantee scheme. Because the programme is free, you will not be eligible for student loans, but you can apply for a student allowance if you meet the eligibility requirements – contact StudyLink for more details. National Certificate in Motor Industry (Entry Skills) (Level 2) About the Programme: Students can choose between two options for this qualification: mechanical or Collision Repair. This qualification is an ideal option for students who want to start a career in the motor industry, providing students with training and skills covering a range of occupations in the automotive industry. Credits: 80 Duration: 48 Weeks* Intakes: Open Intake Campus: Christchurch Available to: FFTO and Youth Training No Fees: for individuals meeting FFTO and Youth Training eligibility criteria. Course content includes: (Dependent on Collision Repair or Mechanical programme) • Vehicle bodywork, including removing and replacing exterior and interior motor body parts and trim • Collision repair/panelbeating, including masking and repairing for priming, and priming, filling and sanding repairs • New and emerging automotive technology • Oxy-acetylene and MIG welding • Understanding and protecting vehicle electronics • Engine repairs, including disassembling and reassembling a single cylinder or multi-cylinder four stroke engine • Cooling, braking, steering and suspension systems • Automotive preventative maintenance • Using hand tools and workshop equipment • Health and safety • Structure of the New Zealand motor industry Graduate Outcomes & Career Opportunities: Graduates of this programme will be prepared for entry into further study in Level 3 programmes, or a range of entry level positions and apprenticeships in the motor industry.
